Call to order; The meeting began at 6:45pm with a call to order by John Boesche. Consent Agenda; Minutes from the November 2, 2017 meeting were approved on a motion made by Jim Garner and second by John Hopkins. John reviewed the spring 2018 enrollment results and made the observation that campus wide numbers are down, but in the Diesel department the numbers are steady. No members had completed the Employer Survey prior to the meeting. Outstanding Student Awards; John shared with the committee the criteria that the students needed to meet to be selected for the award, and announced that the department had not yet chosen the winners. Staffing/Curriculum Changes; John announced to the committee that the Diesel department had lost its adjunct Small Engines instructor and had to cancel this class for the spring semester. He also mentioned that the department has been struggling to find new adjunct instructors and was looking for suggestions. He informed the committee that the department was currently looking for adjunct instructors for Basic Hydraulics, Basic Transmissions, Truck Brakes and Suspension, and Small Engines. John announced to the committee that the new curriculum changes that were voted on at the last meeting were approved and would begin starting with the fall semester. These changes were reviewed on the program planners. Donations/Purchases; Matt Bauer announced that the department had made no new purchases but had received a monetary donation of $3000 from Vermeer Midwest, four new John Deere engines from John Deere Corporate, and twelve Isuzu transmissions and several differentials from Isuzu corporate. Skills USA; Don explained to the group what Skills USA is, and that the Diesel Program had 4 students take the test and 3 qualify to compete at the state level. Interview Day; Mark explained interview day and how it incorporates into the DPT 106 class. He announced that 13 employers had signed up to participate but the event was cancelled due to a water main brake. The event is rescheduled for March 20th and added 2 more employers to participate. He noted how this was the largest group ever. Mark concluded by explaining how the Dining Etiquette event was going to be incorporated into the same day giving the employers the opportunity to participate. LaCretia announced to the group that the college had received a work study grant and how she could get involved with the internships and help pay for part of the students wages. Open Discussion; Mark informed the committee of the upcoming Freshman Orientation meetings and explained there purpose. He also encouraged the committee to pass along fliers and information to anyone interested in our program. Mark made the observation of how quickly the program fills. John asked the group how the department could increase its committee attendance at the meetings. No answers were given. Next meeting; The next meeting will be held on Thursday November 1, 2018 at 6:30pm.
